The voyage of Henry Huston
March 10th 1609 Since I was a young lad I have always wanted to be a sailor and explore new places I got my chance in 1609 when I heard that the famous Henry Huston was going on anther voyage. Huston recruited me as a deck swab on his ship and just like that I was fulfilling my dream to go out and explore. Henry Huston had gone on two previous voyages, the 1st was to find The Northern Passage, a way through the North Pole. The 2nd trip was to find another passage through The Northeast Passage above Russia. This time he planed to find a route around the north or northeast above Nova Zembla he had very precise contract on where to explore since they don’t want him getting off track or fail like his last mission. The exact terms were “Hudson shall, about the first of April, sail in order to search for a passage by the north, around the north side of Nova Zembla, and shall continue thus along that parallel until he shall be able to sail southward to the latitude of sixty degrees” Huston is now 39 years old and on his 3rd voyage I think this is incredible I am lucky to be in his presence. He married a beautiful woman called Katherine and has three childrenRichard, John and Oliver. His son John was his only son who came with Huston to his voyages. The ship we would sail on was the HalfMoon, it was built for speed and easy navigation. April 6th 1609 Finally, I’ve been waiting for this day for almost a month the HalfMoon is finally setting sail today. We were loading supplies all morning and it was hard work. At the first hint of light we left to explore the new world. May 10th 1609 Today I awoke to the crew arguing over which way to sail. Some of the crew wanted to continue sailing though the stormy Arctic waters and others wanted to turn around. Huston finally came up with the idea of sailing south to the New World. The crew agreed, but Juet the leader of the augment still looked unhappy. July 12th 1609 I awoke to some yelling on the deck I rushed up in time to hear the look out shouting “Land Ahoy” We’ve been sailing for 4 months since we left the Old World and today we finally saw land today. It was the coast of North America. It was a low white sandy land. It was a beautiful site there were sandy beaches with pine forests where the beach ended. Huston and the rest of the crew have decided to keep sailing south. July 19th 1609 We Anchor and traded with natives. Juet (a sailor on the ship) told me that he did not trust the natives. I thought the people coming aboard showed us great friendship. We mostly stayed on the ship, but I went down on the beach to feel the warm sand run through my feet. (Added from next days) The crew continued to trade with the natives for several days while they remained at anchor, while fixing their mast. They caught and cooked a total of 31 lobsters. We all had a feast with Hudson he even provided two jugs of wine from his private stores. September 18th 1609 Today Huston accepted an invitation to have dinner with the chief of a tribe of natives. We anchored and walked through the forest to the heart of their camp. The caught what looked like a fat dog or pig and skinned it. http://loveatfirstsight2011.ning.com/
